Settling in time for Libre 2 plus

Hello I am trialing Libre 2 plus. Wondering how long it takes for readings to settle down? Is it usual to be very innaccurate for the first day?

I used to have problems so I put mine on 2 days before the existing one runs out for me it works a treat

Usually fine within a couple of hours for me (I've been on Libre 2+ for quite a while now) - I usually have more problems towards the end of sensor life, where it gives many false low readings (confirmed with a finger prick) - as a result the estimation of HbA1c from my Libre was 5 mmol/mol out from the actual blood test result I got earlier today

Hope your sensor settles soon @Loobyloo

I had a few Libre 1’s over the years which settled after a wobbly start, (Abbott used to say the first 24 hours might be a bit off) but I think the newer ones are generally improved in that respect

When are you testing and what sort of inaccuracy are you seeing and indeed how are you assessing inaccuracy? If levels are changing quite quickly then there will be more difference between Libre and finger prick than when levels are nice and stable. I tend not to double check my Libre sensors until my levels have been stable for about half an hour according to the Libre with no carbs or insulin in my system to drastically affect it. If you compare half an hour after a meal when levels are rising, then there will likely be more difference or an hour and a half after a meal where your own insulin will likely be bringing levels back down.
Your BG meter is also not particularly "accurate" .... certainly not accurate to the decimal place it shows, so if a finger prick gives you 6.8, you can consider that your actual BG is likely somewhere between 6 and 8 and if Libre gives you a corresponding 5.6 or 7.9 those are reasonable results from it.
If you can give us some examples of the results you are getting with comparable finger prick results we will perhaps be able to advise you better. If Libre is withing 2mmols of a BG reading then it is generally acceptable. Mine is usually within 1mmol and Libre usually reads lower.

It is also important to keep well hydrated because dehydration will usually increase Libre readings, because Libre is reading interstitial fluid not blood and when dehydrated the body will raid fluid from interstitial tissue to maintain blood consistency, so the concentration of sugar in the interstitial fluid can increase with dehydration.

Yes i realise to compare when plateaus 2-3 hours after eating low carb meals or snacks and getting readings 2-3 mmol/l difference on first day. I had this a couple of years ago when i tried Libre 2 and was hoping Libre 2 plus was an improvement. I will see over next couple of days if things improve. Maybe i am just one of the unlucky ones it doesn't suit. But fingers crossed it may settle. I will post update.

I tend to insert a new sensor the night before I need it, so that it has a bit of settling in time before I activate it and generally I get really good, consistent results with Libre doing this. I think it can be a very individual thing as to how each person's body responds to a foreign object being fired into it.

Thanks everyone the Libre never did settle down to give me accurate readings so i tried a Dexcon One plus instead and wow what a difference. Almost identical readings to my finger pricks and no constant having to scan to reconnect (my phone is compatible). I did calibrate on day 2 and 3 but didnt have to do again. Delighted as i thought my body just couldn't get along with CGMs but seems in my case it was just Libre (although i know works for many). I will be sticking with Dexcom whilst i try to keep my BG down to acceptable levels as have faltered over last few months. 🙄

I've had to change my latest Libre 2+ sensor this evening (only put it on yesterday) after chronic signal loss and not scanning (Abbott are sending a replacement) - very frustrating - good luck with the Dexcom One+ @Loobyloo (I will be discussing a switch at the 2nd part of my annual review on Monday!)

That exactly the same thing that happened to me with a day old one, but this morning it was fine and has remained ok for far will phone them if it happens again

I'm happy to leave it 36hrs but after then it's clear the problem is not going away so always get a replacement - they are very good at sorting it though, to be fair

Yesterday's was worse (with the gaps) after I first applied it and it clearly wasn't getting any better, so changed it and requested a replacement - all good so far...

I always put mine on 48 hours before activating them mainly because I used to get erratic readings with the Libre 2, so ive carried on with the 2+ I have had much closer readings though, better then Libre 2.

My readings are usually ok after an hour or so of a change (when compared to a finger prick) but the scanning error/signal loss etc. does my head in! ("Try again in 10 minutes!") - once I've had four of five of those it's time to get rid and start again!

I’m fine on the changeovers. Where the try laters & gaping happens is after treating lows with rapid rises for me? But this is with the libre 2s. (Prescribed the plus but not issued yet.)
