I was thinking of joining my local voluntary group, which I probably will do anyway, but it seems very focused towards older people ... I was wondering if anyone had any experience of setting up a group for young people or perhaps a regular exercise group (walking and swimming etc) for diabetics who want some motivation :D I tried setting up a general support group (for anyone with a disability or medical condition) at uni but timing wasn't right and things didn't really take off although the meetings we did have were great fun.

Hi Natalie, I'd suggest getting in touch with Shelley who started up the Circle D groups http://www.circledrocks.co.uk/ Circle D is intended for 18-30 age group, although they don't object if you are a bit older or younger! 🙂

Cheers Northerner! I should have thought of that :D

Good luck with setting a group up Natalie and thinking of others is a lovely attribute you have chick x

There is Midlands Young Diabetics - Myd on Facebook which I help on but seems a bit hard to get people to post.

Thanks Marc, I will check it out later 🙂

Hiya Natalie,

I am in the process of setting up a local group for the Telford and possibly Shrewsbury area as diagnosis at 19, I slipped through the net for 10 years!

I am meeting with 2 people who are experts in setting up support groups and I have also signed up with DiabetesUk and asked for a 'Starter Pack' relating to starting a group.

If I find anything interesting out I'll give you a holler, as already suggested, it maybe worth picking Shelleys brains as I just looked at the website and it looks fab!

Good luck with your plans and let me know if you find anything interesting out!

Marc - I googled myd but I'm not on FB so I couldn't see anything!
