Thank you. I’m just feeling utterly defeated this morning snd not sure what do to…other than just crack on with my meal plans. I’ll need to do a proper grocery shop to stock up on some essentials.
I think I’m going to pull out my gym gear and wash it through ready to go for some local power walks with the pram over the coming weeks.
Morning,
I think the key here is to find 10 evening meals, a regular breakfast, round 5 diifferent types of lunch plus a handful of go-to snacks you can draw on - stick to those and only shop for those. In my opinion avoid slimming world and instead invest the money in some half decent diabetic cookbooks.
Reduce your portion size over a few weeks, you'll find.it easier to adjust. The metformin should be working on your appetite, so mostly it's habit. You need to break the habit, whilst not feeling hungry or unnecessarily punished. It's no use coming on and off diets. We've all done it and it doesn't work. You need to find a groove you feel like you can sustain for the long term, as this is not a lose weight, stop trying approach. So factor in you are going to have bad days, pub days, etc and accept it - the odd trip up is fine, but you have to get straight back on the wagon and don't allow it to fester longer than 1 day at time and I'd say try and limit the screw up days to less than 1 a week!.
Also, walking. Get the pushchair out and do some at pace walking as you mentioned. Make sure your heart rate is up above 120. Start small, like 1km, then 2 etc until you walk for an hour a day at pace (about 6km) at a heat rate >120. It takes less than a month to get to this space, even if your really unfit from my experience. You should be pushing yourself so your breathing heavier than normal but not out of breath. Doing the exercise will also help quash the desire to eat, if you put the effort into exercise your less inclined mentally to undo it by scoffing a pie later in the evening I've found. I've been doing this since end of March now and have lost 2 and a half stone and falling. Also, if you don't have one, a smartwatch (recommend Apple Watch) is a good idea to help as a extra motivator.
Oh, and the odd diet soda is fine in my opinion. I've also read the sweetner's in them can mess with your gut bacteria. But - personally I accept that and try to offset it with probiotics. Having the odd Pepsi max or Diet Coke feels like a treat and when I go out, I can have a drink in the pub which is more interesting than water, but better for you than beer.
