No, but it all depends. It's held on with glue, so it depends on how well that glue sticks to your skin. I think most of us have, at one point or another, managed to knock a sensor off somehow (with doorframes, clothing, horses, etc.). You can buy stickers, straps, etc., to help keep them on, if it's a recurrent problem.

For this one case it's worth reporting it to them: they'll usually replace sensors that come off (and any that are obviously faulty in some way).

I am using them at the moment, and the last one came off (The sensor actually came off the adhesive). I filled in a form on the abbott site and they've sent a replacement.

Thanks been on insulin 3 weeks now and getting used to sensor til fell off (caught it on back of a chair)

Sorry to hear you’ve knocked a sensor off @wendy12

It’s so frustrating when you feel that telltale ‘tug’ - and you’d think it would be impossible to catch it as it’s so flat to the skin! But those doorframes (and other things) just reach out and grab them!

I think @Bruce Stephens is right - if you call Abbott and explain what happened, they may well take pity on you.

My experience is that it takes at least 24 hours for the adhesive to get up to full strength - so it can be worth being a bit extra-cautious when they are ‘fresh’ 🙂

You don’t even have to do that, just fill in the online form and say you knocked it off
and they'll send a replacement no bother

Hi Wendy
I'm in the same boat as you. I am new to this and thought I'd try a sensor after having got fed up with making my finger tips pin cushions. The first one came away after 7 days and then the next one failed about the same length of time but didn't fall off. Each time I rang Abbott and they sent out a replacement foc.

It does worry me though, it's an expensive thing to self fund and if it keeps happening will Abbott stop replacing them for me? I've now purchased some patches that stick over the sensor so will see if they help.

Good Luck

I put extra tapes on my sensors. They are so useful and I don’t want to lose the data so an extra tape is worth it. If they start to peel I put a tegaderm over. Anything to keep it in place.

Nope, they’ll keep replacing them. If it’s every single sensor coming off then yeah try some solutions but if it’s the odd one then just report them. That was what I did when I self funded, and how I still work it now. I use nothing to protect it because generally they last 2 weeks. If I knock the odd one off I just claim the replacement and benefit from the extra time.
