Semglee and Trurapi Insulins

The DSN who came by on Friday mentioned two insulins. By that time I was switching off as the ambulance was waiting and we had the pointless (IMHO) discussion about replying solely on Libre to detect hypos. The insulins were Semglee and Trurapi. Obviously I imagine they'd are hundreds, even thousands, here pn these insulins but is anyone on this specific combination?

Sadly since they invented DSNs I have had a few. One I had got quite a few years was excellent and another somewhat above average whilst the rest have been below. I find it particularly irksome when the consultant is happy for me be on porcine insulin and the DSN wants to switch me.

@MikeyBikey Semglee is a biosimilar of Lantus, so personally I’d avoid it for that reason. Trurapi is a bio-similar of Novorapid (but I’ve read some people not getting on with it and switching to Novorapid).

However, if you and your consultant are happy with the porcine insulin, then stay on it. It’s up to you not the DSN. People often have a prejudice and/or ignorance about animal insulins.

When I broke my femur my stay (10 days) was spoilt initially by the diabetes consultant wanted me off porcine insulin. The insulins he tried either have me symptomless hypos or failed to lower my blood sugar! When asked what the issue was with porcine insulin it turned out he was a vegan and disliked the concept of killing animals for insulin! I pointed out they were in the food chain so I consider them organ donors!

Yes, the animal insulin is derived from the products of the meat industry rather than animals being killed specifically to obtain insulin. You’re entitled to use the insulins that suit you. I get really fed up when people assume newer equals better.
