Hi all I've just received my sad codefree what numbers should I be looking at getting any tipsy using would be appreciated .
 
The Nice guidelines suggest type 2's should aim for 7 or under fasting/before meals (but preferably not under 4) and
no more than 8.5 two hours after a meal.

Best to test before and 2 hrs after a meal to see how much that particular food affects you. If you get hikes in the before and after, re-think the carb content of the meal.

Might be a stupid question but what do you do if you have a reading well ver or well below its all a bit heavy as a newcomer .
 
Hi Billy. You will most probably get numbers that are on the high side in the beginning while your BG settles down and you get used to running on lower levels of sugar.

If your post eating readings are significantly higher then you need to look at what carbs you had in the meal and cut them down.

It's unlikely to be dangerous down to about 3.5 (in which case even though you've no doubt been told to avoid sugar like the Plague - which is correct 99.9 times out of a hundred - in the 0.1 chance you get a low reading - have something small with sugar - eg a cup of tea with ONE teaspoon of sugar. It will soon come back up again.

However, when it's above 4, it depends how high above 4 it is - the higher it gets the more serious - but a normal meter reads up to about 33 anyway! - after that it just says 'HI'. You'll soon get the hang of it when you are using it consistently - and as long as you amend your diet - and ALL carbohydrates esp anything made with flour and things like spuds, quite a few fruits etc are high carb, and will increase our blood glucose - but you'll see that by testing before and after meals, which will show you what's happening with different choices of food.

Read the link Northerner gave you to 'Test Review Adjust' - it explains! - the 'Adjust' part is what you do when you don't like the test result!
 
When, I was too high. I went for a quick walk. For me, that always brought my levels down quite nicely.

Then, I avoided what sent me high in the first place (or reduced the quantity).
