Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I work in a large DIY store which is still open, but I am concerned that being type 2 diabetic I am in a high risk group when it comes to Covid 19. I did ask my manager if I could stay at home and was told that I could take un-paid leave, but that as my diabetes is under control, the company does not class me as high risk. Does anyone know what my rights are? I can't afford to take un-paid leave, but I really don't like having to go to work and put myself at risk.

Hello @Rhyf Tri

Welcome to the forum!

The current guidance for people with diabetes is that we are ’strongly advised‘ to follow social distancing advice.

And also to reduce contact with others as outlined in the ‘shielding’ recommendations.

It’s good that you have been speaking to your employer. Woikd it be possible for you to adapt your role so that it is less ‘public facing’ (perhaps a little more back room, or working at different times?) or if that isn’t possible, at the least so that you can stay 2m away from visitors to the store?
