Hi,

My other half is type 1 diabetic and finally taking it seriously....he is so good keeping on top of his insulin, testing and correcting regularly and hasn't drank since Christmas!!

He is dieting and exercising but unfortunately doesn't seem to be able to lose weight. We get married in May and he wants to lose a stone as a minimum. I am really worried he will reduce his insulin to see if that will help control his weight. I feel helpless and don't know what to do...

We have been seeing a diabetic nurse who is referring us to a diabetic nutrition but that seems to be taking forever...

Hi Sasha, Welcome! 🙂

I’m type 2, so don’t know about dieting for type 1’s, but know there are people on this lovely helpful forum, who are and who will be able to help. No doubt they will be along soon. 🙂

Hi there and welcome to the forum 🙂

Does he adjust his doses to cover the amount of carbs he eats? (carb counting) What kind of things is he eating at the moment?
xx

I've found this a really useful tool for working out how many cals to eat in conjunction with how much exercise to get to a weight target:

I'd ask the same as the last bit of Kaylz post - what's he eating? And what exercise? He shouldn't need to snack unless it's specifically in connection with prolonged exercise sessions.

Hello @Sasha001

Welcome to the forum!

And congratulations on your forthcoming wedding! It must be an exciting (and stressful!) time for you both. How does your partner take his insulin? Is it via insulin pens or a pump? And approx how often a day would be normally check his BG levels?

As others have said, it would be useful to know whether he adjust his insulin doses to suit different meals by knowing the carb count of what he’s eating, or takes the same doses every day and eats food to match.

What sorts of exercise does he do at the gym?

Sorry for all the questions!
