Has anyone else heard about this?
I think I found the contact details in the last Diabetes UK magazine and got in touch when it came out. I recently went along to my local hospital and gave a number of samples of blood and two of urine to the lovely nurses who are running this project. (I must admit I am feeling very virtuous at the moment 😉 )
Their plan is to get a lot of samples which can be accesses in the future by anyone doing research (which must be approved by the committee in charge) into type 1(causes, cures, why some people get on 'better' than others.....).
I have given samples of blood and urine, but if a researcher wishes more information, have said I am happy to be contacted and I have also given permission for any future blood samples etc. taken at my clinic visits etc. to be added to the store.
In return, they have stated that although my samples will be 'anonimised' (very Dr Who isn't it?), if there is anything they feel my GP should know, then they will inform them (my GP) of this.
Not a bad bargain as far as I can see and if it helps find the reason for us getting type 1 - or even better a cure, then I will be chuffed.😎
