Scotland Announces Proposed End to all Covid Restrictions - 9th August

To enormous relief, Nicola Sturgeon has just announced that she proposes to end all covid restrictions (including distancing and masks) in Scotland on 9th August this year subject to 2 conditions.

1) That all over 40s are fully vaccinated. We're well on target for this.
2) A final review of the situation. Not unexpected really.

She has also announced that we're ditching the strategy of trying to eliminate covid or to focus solely on getting case numbers down and that she'll now be looking at the wideer health and economic benefits of opening up. In other words she recognises that we need to get back to normal.

Worth repeating. The aim is normality. Not new normal. Not almost normal. Not masks forever. Totally normal.
So we now need a bit of good fortune that nothing spooks these people in the next 6 or 7 weeks and then it'll be over.

Plenty of distance to go but this is the first time we've actually had a proper end goal laid out in black and white in Scotland.

I'm off for a celebratory tea and bun.

Ms Sturgeon said this would allow life in Scotland to return to "almost complete normality".
But the government will not advise an immediate return to full office working on that date - and people will still be required to wear face masks in some settings.

Re-reading the 47 page document with 41 page additional document on physical distancing (yes 88 pages), it looks like she's been a bit vague about things where masks are concerned.

I assumed that masks were included under physical distancing measures and it looks like I might have misunderstood that. So now I'm not sure exactly what date the law on masks will be repealed and exactly what circumstances it will still be a law to wear one.

It is incredible really - 88 pages of wittering tripe and one of the key messages gets lost in translation. No wonder people just stop listening to these politicians. 🙂

It doesn't matter so much to me now because I'm done with them anyway but it would be nice to have the threat of a fine lifted.

On the positive side, she's finally detailed something approaching a proper end date.
