Love those! Nothing beats a good cream scone..... except maybe a cheese scone with butter and a mug of hot chocolate!

I am torn between plain with cream and cheese scones
I am afraid I am totally decadent, if I am going to have a cream scone I might as well go the whole hog and have a fruit scone with jam and cream. It is a bit of a dim and distant memory for me since diagnosis though, as is the cheese scone with a hot chocolate. I have very happy memories of various cafes and canteens around the north east where I have had a good cheese scone in my past life. :D

We always have cheese scones in the freezer ready to defrost and have on a Sunday afternoon with a dollop of chutney.
Fruit scones don’t last long enough to freeze due to my Mum’s wonderful homemade raspberry jam.

Ooo and I have just remembered why we have the cheese scones - it’s the addition of leeks when we are struggling to eat the leeks from the veg box.

Nope diabetes does not stop me eating full carb scones.

I like a fruit scone with butter as opposed to Jam and cream, not a lover of jam but i would have black cherry compote
my hubby is the chef and makes wonderful scones, and his warm cheese scones don't last long our daughter and her boyfriend who lives with us devour them in no time, as well as hubby, even though he is T2 he never has a problem no matter what he eats, my last scone was in hospital and couldn't eat so he made some cheese scones to tempt me and it worked

When you say he doesn't have a problem no matter what he eats. Can you explain what you mean by not having a problem? I am guessing he is on medication for his diabetes?

No he isn't on any medication he stopped taking it about a year ago, he does finger pricks morning and before meals he has low constant readings all the time, we do eat well and have a good diet but he can eat bread, rice, pasta etc and has no spikes other than what you would expect 2 hours after a meal.

100% cheese scone for the win over any others (cheese and wholegrain mustard is nice too)
saw a video of someone making cheese and leek scones a couple of weeks ago which i want to try but haven't made yet.

My cheese and leek scones are just a small variation on the standard cheese scone recipe. I add a finely chopped raw leek to the mixture at the same time as I add the cheese.
I do not adjust the proportions of any of the other ingredients and definitely do not need to cook the leek as it cooks well enough in the dough.

You wouldn’t really expect that much spike by 2 hrs after a meal. The targets for t2 are 4-7 before meals and under 8.5 at 2hrs after a meal

Look lovely, obviously with cream on first then topped with jam on the scone (rhyme with bone obviously 🙂)

He has constant low readings regardless of the food he eats including puddings.
