Well finally we are packed for Hannah's school trip. They set off from school at 7 am tomorrow. As luck would have it, her readings have been all over the place for days so I am now just resigned to having to let her get on with it. It did occur to me today that I don't think we could have both coped if she was still on MDIs, so thank goodness for the pump! I have had to pack some of her clothes in her sister's suitcase to make room for all the equipment to cover every eventuality. If all goes to plan she will only need her PDM and her BG kit, but to cover the what ifs I have packed:
Spare pods
Emergency Spare PDM
Booklet for how to set up emergency PDM
Pens for novorapid and lantus with cartridges in case case her pump fails
Needles
Spare insulin for spare pods
Jelly babies/ glucose tablets in little portion sized bags
Cereal bars
Extra blood test and ketone test strips
Etc etc etc

It's almost as bad as it used to be when we were packing to go away with twin babies!!!

Deep breaths now and off we go. On the plus side I get to meet a friend for tea on Tuesday evening after work and....no kids!!

Amanda I had to go through the same 2 weeks ago son spent a week in Devon with the school eeee i was dead nervous, I know he dont have D but i had the same feelings etc etc.I hope she has a lovely time with no mishaps.Enjoy the tea and the peace :D

Have fun on Tuesday and stop worrying she will be fine 🙂

Phew, that's quite a list! I hope that everything goes well and that she really enjoys the trip 🙂 Did you pack a prescription in case she needs to get anything replaced locally?

Oh I can't believe I never thought of that!! Still time to put them in her bag!!! Thanks Northerner and all for support as always!

How well I remember that and I wasn't even D then. I'm sure Hannah will be fine.

Hope you don't mind if I take you with me over the next few days, but it is strangely cathartic posting on here and receiving comfort from others who know what you are going through! So .... Last night Hannah's bts were awful! 15 at 10.30 pm, still 15 about an hour and a half later after correction, 17 a couple of hours after that after another correction and then 13 something about an hour after that! Not much sleep for me and we had to be up at 5.30!! By breakfast it was 7.3!
So they leave school about 7.30 and at 8.30 I get first text saying, "I'm not panicking, but am 22.3 so I've done a correction. But I'm just wondering...have you changed any of my settings recently that could have caused this?'. How calm was that!! My reply, no, but you have changed your pod this morning (which often sends you high), had breakfast earlier so carb ratios will have been wrong and you're excited. I am sure it will settle down. Then I think to myself OMG and can't concentrate on work for a bit. However she keeps me informed as her levels steadily drop so she is 5.3 before lunch.
Then they arrive at Dalguise and the flurry of texts stop as she clearly has other things on her mind!!
So how am I feeling? Ok at the moment. At least until the next text arrives!

What a fab Mother daughter combo. Both in contact and working through the problems as they arise.
You have a daughter to be proud of there Amanda 🙂

Thank you Sue! Would you believe my other daughter has injured herself!!! Got led into a tree whilst blindfolded doing a sensory trail through the forest! Has sent me photos of swollen and bruised eye, grazed cheek, shoulder and arm! Bless her! Now I am going to try and relax for the rest of the evening and hope I get no more texts. In these days of easy access to mobiles, emails etc, no news is definitely good news!

Oh crumbs ... Doesn't it always happen like that, the one you're not worrying about comes a cropper! Hope she is OK.
I just picked up my (non-D) daughter after 4 days in France with the school. She had loads of fun. Looking forward to hearing how it goes for Hannah 😎
William is up in the Lake District with his dad right now, having treatment for his lymphoedema. Has discovered that ice cream, normally so difficult for him, is a great boon on a walk. One of those small tubs keeps him going for about an hour before he has to have some Kendal mint cake :D

Not a word from Hannah so far today. Had text from other daughter Eleanor this morning so I ventured to ask how Hannah was and got the response, 'she's fine'. So far so good then!! And I'm out for tea with a friend tonight to take advantage of my kid free time, so quite happy all in all!!🙂

Must be such a worry but sounds like you are both doing brilliantly - enjoy your child free time!
