A tax-avoidance scheme under which NHS staff can buy state-of-the-art TVs and iPads cheaply has been heavily criticised by a retired surgeon.
Hywel Dda Health Board in west Wales is one of several NHS bodies in the country offering a wide range of ?home technology? goods to employees under a salary sacrifice scheme.
Under HMRC-approved salary sacrifice schemes, payment for goods is made through an employer before tax and national insurance contributions have been deducted, giving staff a cash benefit and depriving the Treasury of revenue.
