I'm sure someone here once mentioned that it's possible to let your energy providers know that you are a priority for restoration in the case of a power outage, due to medical need i.e. keep your insulin cool etc. Does anyone know about this or is it just a figment of my imagination? 😱 🙂

I will ask mum, she works for a relating service, so will know.

She said it’s a real thing, you can raise it with your supplier directly, might have it on their website but most likely have to call them.

In power cuts “They dont do very much really, if they were very vulnerable may provide a suitcase generator which would only power a few lights and maybe kettle.”

She then said it is still worth doing, so maybe we should all give it a ago, especially I know a few on here care for older relatives in worse health conditions and this may be very key to those people

I believe in 70s the power cuts then were done on rotation and the rotas were published.
I personally was not affected much by them as I lived in hospital accommodation , in the grounds of a hospital.

Thanks Phoebe (and Phoebe's Mum 🙂 ) 🙂 Not something I think I would need myself, but power cuts were raised on another thread 🙂

Yes it's a real thing, makes you priority for getting electric back on sooner etc, my mums provider made us aware not long after I was diagnosed, we get a text from them whenever there's a storm predicted to hit the area to remind us we're on the list xx

When I do the change I remind them - my husband doesn't seem to worry, but I use a CPAP machine every night and feel the need greatly. We have not had a power cut for a very long time now though - there are a lot of elderly people in the area both roaming free and in care homes and hospitals and so we are perhaps kept going as long as possible

We’re registered for this with both our energy company and B gas who do our central heating servicing. A few years ago our old boiler broke down and because we’re registered as vulnerable with them , they got someone out to us really fast.

Yes it’s real. You just let the provider know and if you have a power cut they update you A LOT about what’s going on.

We had a power cut a few weeks ago and we’re updated on the repair time estimate pretty much hourly and very unexpectedly 7 days later a cheque turned up to apologise for the power cut (do power companies control storms?) ..... apparently that’s what my provider does. I self fund libres so it paid for 1 and a 1/2.

Our landlord is with BG. We had the carbon monoxide alarm go off the other week and they had to turn the gas off, because I am diabetic they arrived much quicker, there wasn’t any need for it but it was helpful x
