thank you i am on medication metformin but donot know what to get or drink
The general rule is to be careful with any carbohydrates you consume (things like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread etc.) It can be helpful to start a food diary writing down everything that you eat and drink for a week and then examining it to see where you might be able to make some adjustments - either by substituting certain things or reducing portion sizes.
Diabetes can be quite an individual condition in that what affects one person quite badly (i.e raises their blood glucose levels high), another person may be able to tolerate fairly well. Ideally, your doctor should prescribe you a home-testing kit so you can test your 'before and after' eating numbers. Do you have one?
Some things are fairly obvious to avoid: anything which is high in sugar, for example, or any white flour products like white bread. One of the best types of bread to buy is a seeded, granary bread - Burgen Soya and Linseed is especially good. The seeds slow down the digestion so the energy is released more slowly and has less impact on blood glucose levels.
I would suggest getting
The GL Diet for Dummies as a useful guide to the best types of food to eat that will be friendly to your diabetes. GL (Glycaemic Load) is a way of picking and combining food elements to provide meals that will have a slow and steady release.
As for drinks, it is best to avoid full-sugar soft drinks like Coke, Lilt, Dr Pepper etc., and also fruit juices as these also have a high sugar content. Fresh or tinned fruit is fine, although once again some people find they tolerate some better than others - berries are generally the best.
I hope this helps a little.
