Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,
I am new here. I have type 2 diabetes and was diagnosed about 12 years ago.

My medication is Metformin 500 daily and Atorvastatin 40mg

The thing that prompted me to join the forum was hoping to find advice on footwear. I am overweight and walk quite a bit. In the past few months I have found my feet to be hurting me more. Last month I went to a podiatrist who said that my feet are in good shape for this condition.

Any time I try to search for Diabetic suitable trainers I find links that are for products that do not appear to exist. :(

Regards,
Ian

Welcome, Ian.....

I find that my feet work better in hiking boots (or similar) with some nice thick wicking wool socks. Cotton just doesn't cut it for me as my feet then tend to sweat in cotton. For recommendations for brands I have no clue as I don't live in the UK anymore but my last couple of pairs have been Columbia Sportswear which I believe are available in the UK

Hi Ian, welcome to the forum 🙂 Hopefully, some of our members will be able to help you with some good sources of information and recommendations 🙂 Is there any particular problem generally, or do your feet just start to hurt during or after a walk? For walking shoes I have always found that Merrill offer a good range of strong but comfortable shoes, so might be worth investigating. You may be searching for the wrong thing if you are looking for shoes suitable for diabetics as this is more likely to bring up options for people who have various problems with complications, but if your feet are in good condition you ought to be able to explore the wider market 🙂

Good strong shoes and thick socks. I used to have terrible problems with my feet but by combining these two options fortunately I no longer have issues.
Loosing weight also is very beneficial.

Hi Ian and a warm welcome to our friendly supportive forum. I did a quick search for you and came across the following sites in which you might be interested:~

https://amazon.co.uk/shopping.
Low prices on shoes for diabetics.

https://www.simplyfeet.co.uk>brands

https://www.diabetes.co.uk>foot-care.

There are more sites on line tho too many for me to list here. I hope you find the above helpful. Just a thought but as well as walking ~ cycling and swimming will help you to lose weight ~ plus a diet with few carborhydrates!🙂Take care.

I always used to get walking boots from a real shop, never online. In a good shop, they will properly measure your feet and supply shoes that will accommodate proper socks, too, together with any insoles needed to get a perfect fit. It’s never going to be cheap, but it’s money well spent, believe me.

'Go Outdoors' shoe department were good, I found.
