Welcome Blackberry. Most of us who got type 1 diabetes as adults have relatively slow onset of symptoms, compared to those who get it as children, and much slower to your rapid onset with removal of pancreas. I'm guessing there was some underlying problem for the pancreatectomy & spleenectomy? In which case, the trauma and / or condition which necessitated removal also take some getting over, in addition to recovering from surgery and getting used to insulin, blood glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting etc. It really does get easier, almost instinctive (estimating carbohydrate content by sight, for example), although I still get taken by surprise sometimes, 14 years on. What I've found most imporant is deciding what really matters to me and setting about trying to meet those ambitions. So, hanging in there is a good approach!
