I was diagnosed with type2 in February this year. I really should of known it was coming with osteoarthritis and the solid weight gain that would not stop climbing.
Having had a modest drop in weight since I started metformin, I now want to try Time Restricted Eating (16:8) which would mean still fasting at breakfast time so is it safe to take metformin with tea on an empty stomach? Or do I need to adjust my breakfast and dinner dosages? Thanks

Hi @Loader1810 welcome to the forum, pleased you found us.
It's probably best to take Metformin with food (usually how it's prescribed) because it can cause tummy upset and taking it with food can reduce the side effects.

When you take the Metformin can depend on whether it is slow release version as that can be taken just once a day usually with you largest meal as that can minimise any stomach issues some people get not because it acts directly on the carbohydrates in your meal. It is better not to take on an empty stomach indeed people find it better taken mis meal.
Time restricted eating helps some people but others find it makes little difference as the liver releases glucose in the absence of food.
It is better to adopt a sustainable way of eating which you can maintain long term.
Are you following a low carb approach in which case you may find this link helpful. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

@Loader1810 I eat at 12 hour intervals as I found that my levels continued to rise in the mornings until I ate. I'd advise checking your levels to see which way of eating suits you best, as different people react in different ways to restricted eating.

Hi Loader,
I have been on 16:8 IF (no breakfast) for 18 months, and found it practical, effective and sustainable. Freshwell call it 17:7 on their Time Restricted Eating page. I see this also suggests skipping lunch 2 days per week, I've been doing that too for a couple of months to help with weight maintenance.

Zoe Harcombe explains why this is effective for fat burning and weight loss in this article, What should we eat?
