Hi

My daughter has been type 1 for 9 years now.
After bit of advice before we sit at A and E as we cant get hold off diabetes team.

She has been sick all night and most off today, her blood glucose levels are and have been sitting at 9 so not concerned about that but her ketones are rising...she is now 1.5, tried getting hold off diabetes team (adult as she is 19 and we keep leaving voice mails) without either going to A and E or calling 111 does anyone have any ideas on what is best.

Thank you

Is she able to sip some fluids like a sugary drink and take some insulin for it if it stays down, to help the ketones go down?

Do you have a copy of the sick day rules advised by your clinic?

Sickness can be scary with Type 1. I usually sip full sugar Coke and take insulin as needed to cover it. That can help get the ketones down. Keeping hydrated is important too. Eating something as soon as she’s able should help, eg dry biscuits, toast.

I hope she feels better soon x

Being ill with T1 is difficult to manage, especially with vomiting, but it sounds like you have both got through it. Well done and I hope that she feels a lot better soon.
