I've recently been told to cut out alot of things I like to eat to keep my numbers down. It's hard because I'm small built and don't want to lose weight. Seems like diabetic diets are for people who need to lose weight. What to do?

Welcome to the forum. You rightly say that most of the dietary recommendations are aimed at people who need to lose weight because that is one of the factors that will help with reduction of blood glucose levels. However if that in not the case then reducing the amount of carbohydrates is still needed as all carbohydrates convert to glucose but you then need to compensate by increasing the protein and healthy fats in your diet along with veg and salads and fruit like berries which are at the lower end of the carbs.
How much dietary change you need depends on what your HbA1C is, that is how far you are into the diabetic zone and what if any medication you are on.
Have a look at this link which although is a low carb approach there may be some ideas that will suit you. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Basing meals on meat, fish, eggs, dairy, cheese, nuts, veg and salads still give plenty of options.
I love Avocado and eat alot when I can get it. Also I drink Peanut punch and eat almonds. Oh, I was told to buy non fat plain Greek yogurt before. Thanks for the tips
