What a difference, hs went through everything, esp the form that has to be sent to the hosp so that i will be sent for to check eyes, feet etc,
She gave me a monitor and told me i needed to do a diary etc all the things that you guys told me.

I told her that the dr had told me it was my fault for being over weight, symptoms were in my head and no need to monitor, she was gobsnacked and told me that she was seeing another lady today with the same story, saw same DR!!

So feel so much better now, i can at least start to make myself feel better.

I am so glad you got sorted and tbh lots of docs are being like that and I do wonder how the hell they practice medicine as bed side manner as it were is non existent these days, at least you have a decent nurse by the sound of it, hopefully you will get all the help you need now :D

I'm so pleased Julie! How can that doctor be so ignorant about a condition that affects over 2 million people in this country? He should be ashamed. Glad to hear that the nurse has set you on the right path and eased your worries - DSN's are some of the best healthcare professionals I have ever met - hurrah for DSNs!!!!:D:D

Thats brilliant news Julie. I'm glad you feel better about it now too.

Talking of ignorant doctors. My GP recently put me on Ramipril for high blood pressure (which I've since stopped taking because my diabetes consultant did a 24 hour blood pressure test which showed that my blood pressures isn't consistently high - but that's a different story!) and when I asked if there was anything else that I could take because I am planning another pregnancy and you can't take Ramipril when you're pregnant, he told me I shouldn't risk getting pregnant because it was dangerous, especially when I'm diabetic!!!!! I was gobsmacked, what an ignorant comment! Am pleased to say my diabetes consultant was much more supportive.

Unfortuately Proudspirit, some GPs don't have sufficient knowledge of diabetes to offer any sensible advice. Glad you've now seen the nurse though and seem to be getting the advice that you need!

Glad things are getting sorted for you. Doctors don't always know everything. I'd been going backwards and forwards with all the classic symptoms for ages and it took a health care awareness event at work to persuade my doctor I am realy diabetic.

I am glad you are feeling better and are now able to do things to help yourself, it makes all the difference.

Hi Julie,
I'm so pleased you have found some correct and helpful advice from the nurse.
I would be inclined to write to the practice manager and explain what happened to you. Also sugest that the Dr in question should be sent on a retraining course to bring her up to date on diabetes care and management.
Also the NICE guidelines should be mentioned in your letter asking if it would not be a good idea for Dr's to know what they say regarding diabetes self care and management.

Best wishes
Sue

Julie, I'm so pleased that your session with the nurse was so positive and that you are feeling much better. Just wanted to wish you well as you start to find out what works for you and what doesn't

Ju;ie, well done you. That must be a huge weight off your shoulders.

I think we all forget that GPs are just that GENERAL practisioners - as deiabetics we need to see by SPECIALISTS

Mind, we are all here to support one another

I do agree that GPs are necessarily Jacks of all trades and masters of none, but diabetes, particularly Type 2, affects a significant proportion of the population and probably an even greater proportion of people seeking medical help. Given all the national campaigning about the growing rate of diabetes, they should really be more clued up! There, I've said my piece! My GP is lovely, BTW, and knows her stuff.🙂

Julie that's great news, glad you had such a positive experience and now feel that you can start to take control of the situation.
Well done!

Hopefully the nurse will bring this up too.
