Public satisfaction with GP services has fallen to its lowest level since records began in 1983, according to the annual British Social Attitudes survey.

Satisfaction dropped seven percentage points to 65% in the 2017 study, making it the first time general practice has not been the highest-rated NHS service.

The study showed people were happy with the care given by GPs, but were unhappy about things like waiting times.

Public satisfaction with the NHS fell six percentage points from 2016.

Only 57% of people were happy with the service - the lowest level since 2011 - while dissatisfaction has risen to 29% - the highest level in a decade.

Not surprising. Too few GP's and, certainly in Kent, they seem to be closing surgeries, which can't be helping

Not at all surprising. My GP you can’t book appointments anymore but have to go to walk-in clinics where you can be waiting for hours.

I'm not surprised, fortunately my surgery still do appointments and always give me an emergency appointment if necessary.

My surgery is the opposite, they stopped doing the walk-in clinics a while ago and now you have to battle for appointments. Usually two weeks if you want to see a specific doctor :(

This story made me choke on my tea in disbelief the other day:

😡 :(

I must be honest I cannot fault the service I get from my GP in Newcastle, other then the fiasco over my diagnosis at T2 however, I think we are fortunate.
I considered private medical insurance at the end of last year then decided I was happy at the moment with the level of service so why change.

NSS Alan. I don't have a problem with the service - it's simply getting access to it now that's like mud wrestling. It's especially annoying when I've never abused it and have only ever been there when I really needed to, when I have had something I couldn't sort/didn't know what it was myself.

I feel very fortunate in comparison with some of these experiences. We have a morning open access service at our surgery so you’ll see a GP if you’re there before 10.15am. There’s often a long wait however.

Appointments can usually involve a 4-5 day wait dependent on when you ring. You can speak to a GP that day on the call back system.

My situation puts me on a rapid response service so I can expect a same day call or appointment from a GP or nurse. Four weeks ago I rang my GP and he saw me within the hour.

Yup. The surgery here has open access in the morning. I went in about 9.15 for my Levemir complaint and there was nobody there. I did apologise for appearing for a prescription discussion during surgery time.

What I would like to know if all this has any effect on the health of the nation. Sod all, I suspect. Irritation never killed anybody.

Well, apart from Hitler, who looked irritated most of the time.
