Thank you all for your good luck wishes.

Well, all in all it went well. Yes, there was a lot to learn, but I loved the fact, that Mike and I got our own pump each to do exactly the same as Carol was doing on hers. Carol was a bit apprehensive about putting the cannula in herself, but she managed it just fine. I?m very proud of her, especially as she hates needles (she uses autocover needles on her pens). Mike said to her just beforehand, that we?d take her to McDs if she does it. Luckily we didn?t end up there, but at Frankie and Benny?s. She received a kangaroo from the rep, to put the pump in at night. She already named it PETER. So now she has to treat the pump as if it had insulin in it. And we need to work out a weekend basal ourselves for next week.

We also received a Glucomen XL + blood machine which also tests for ketones. When I told her we already had the exceed she wanted to take it away again, but I said no, can we please have it, as we had nothing but trouble with the exceed whenever we needed to use it (rarely).

There?s only one negative to it ? Carol didn?t get ?her? pump. She?s using the hospital?s loan pump, as hers didn?t arrive in time.

Sounds like you have all made a good start Monica! Carol is bound to be a little apprehensive and nervous - I certainly would be! But you are all involved in learning together as it is new to you all, and I think that is good, she is learning to deal with it herself rather than just following your instructions. And it is brilliant that she managed the cannula! 🙂 Hope all continues to go well!

Sounds like a brilliant start. We are all anxious about new things, but everyone is doing well, it is great news.

That's brilliant that you can all try using the pump at the same time. I hope that Carol gets her own pump very soon.

Great start, i hope it all goes well x🙂

Sounds like a good start. I hope all carries on going well, best wishes xx

Oh dear, first ?problem? already. Carol got her breakfast ready, pumped her saline, ate brekkies, did injection and got ready for school. While getting ready, she suddenly screamed for me. I found her sitting on the stairs crying. She said that her site suddenly stung and it then spread over the whole of her tummy. The pain went as she sat down on the stairs. After a few cuddles I persuaded her to stand up. She was surprised that it was OK again. I had to phone the DSN anyway, as I had a few questions. She thought it weird too, but said if it happens again to change the infusion set.

Glad to hear that the pain went quickly and I hope it doesn't put her off at all. Hopefully some of our pumpers will be able to share their experiences - this might be something that happens in a blue moon and she may just have been unlucky.

It must have been a blip. She's absolutely fine now. Maybe it was simply because saline stings.

Wondering whether mine is at the mo, so also wondering whether the cannula is too long for her?

What length is she using?

Sorry it took so long to reply - her cannula is 6mm. It was just the saline that was bothering her.
Anyway, new post about Carol starting on pump 🙂
