Sajid Javid’s tactics of “attacking and threatening” GPs with “league tables of shame” if they do not see enough patients in person risks family doctors, practice nurses and receptionists facing greater abuse and threats, the leader of Britain’s doctors has said.

Javid’s plan, which has been endorsed by NHS England, could fuel a dangerous “blame culture” against GPs, Dr Chaand Nagpaul added.

Nagpaul, the head of the British Medical Association (BMA), voiced frustration and deep unease about how the health secretary’s plan could damage the close relationship GPs – “the bedrock of the NHS” – have with their patients.

He singled out Javid and NHS England’s plan to publish regular updates on how many patients each GP practice is seeing face-to-face, take action against the lowest-performing 20% and let patients post text message reviews of their most recent experience with their surgery as measures that could turn patients against GPs.

Bit like poking the bear, see this having negative effect with drs nurses leaving profession. This govn is hopeless.

As a GP fortunately working in a well staffed practice I do not know whether to be more impressed by those who comment that it is wrong to shoot the messenger even when they struggle to get an appointment, or shocked/ angry by some of the more vitriolic "attacks" on the profession insisting that have been on the golf course for the past 18 months and/ or are doing private work instead of seeing NHS patients, and suggesting pay minimal wage and be forced to work 18 hour days.
The country and health service is in a mess... People resent others with secure employment and good salaries but it sometimes appears they want to level down and not up.

And the number of F2F is not a fair comparison unless overall demand is looked at-also some people want a remote consultation and their problem can be solved in this way. Unless it is something really straighforward I am less and less tolerant of remote consulting and sometimes bring almost all of the patients on my list into the surgery-but then it feels like I am doing a receptionists job as well as my own trying to fit them all in and not run late or encourage too many in the waiting room at once

I think that some people are very frustrated and worried, fightened even, and sometimes feel they need to speak to a GP who shows compassion and understanding. When things fall short of their expectations (right or wrong), some tend to lash out or at a minimum just voice their pain somewhat loudly.

I wouldn't be a GP if you paid me!!! Tough job. Relentless. But essential. Just keep going.
