Unfairly sacked doctor Raj Mattu says he hopes to win at least £6.5million in damages.

If successful, his claim would be the biggest ever compensation for a dismissal for a doctor in the UK.

An employment tribunal ruled in April that Dr Mattu had been unfairly dismissed by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and last week the trust decided it was not going to appeal against that decision.

Now the case will go before a hearing to decide on the level of compensation to be awarded.

More power to his elbow, they've behaved reprehensively IMHO - and it's my hospital.

How DARE they waste the NHS's money on bloody vendettas? MY money.

They fell out with him for whistle blowing; they sent him home and kept him there on full pay for a number of years; then they said he could come back; then when he arrived for duty they said he couldn't practice because his training wasn't up to date, so he needed to go on a course he couldn't go on for nearly a year, which they stated they would fund; he turned up for the course only to find the hospital had refused to pay so he funded it himself; completed it with flying colours - and still that wasn't good enough for them.

You couldn't invent it.

It should come out of the pockets of those responsible :( What happened to accountability? It doesn't seem to exist in the NHS, individuals are never brought to account for such things.
