The NHS must adopt the same thinking as grocery and high street retailers and car manufacturers such as Tesco and BMW.

This is the message outlined today in a report* from the right-wing think-tank Reform, authored by Professor Paul Corrigan (a former advisor to Tony Blair) and Mike Parish.

The report argues that within a decade new service models from within the public or the independent sector will make major changes to the way nearly 75% of NHS hospitals and GP practices operate.

Professor Corrigan and Mike Parish, CEO of the independent health company Care UK, argue that the NHS should adopt the same thinking that has cut costs and improved quality in grocery retail, high street retail and car manufacturing. He warns that the ‘protectionism and political conservatism’ of the NHS is itself a barrier to good patient care.

Who's going to want to go and see the 'Value' doctor😱

Naive? It's positively idiotic IMO. It's another example of the cloud-cuckoo land thinking this government and others have been indulging in for decades. All the NHS really needs is less administration and more doctoring combined with another penny on the tax bill from each of us.

That's right, I understand Morrisons are going to 'lose' 2000 staff, so perhaps the NHS could take them on as yet another layer of management?

Just what it needs, with the nurses crying out for a payrise .......
