If you followed any of my threads about my conditions getting the better of me, then this might surprise people as much as it surprises me.

I volunteer for Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service (LIVES.). LIVES provide a community based urgent medical response which often saves lives due to the speed of turn out. I have personally attended 15 calls so far this year including 8 glycemic emergencies. I am just 1 of 700 volunteers.

Well back on topic, I have managed to get back out running and I am, it is a struggle but a worthwhile one. I have also been reducing my insulin and I am at this moment in time not using any at all. Three weeks now and my BM is stable. So I have decided to jump in at the deep end.

Well there is no going back now. I'm running the Lincoln 10K for LIVES. Ironically its April 2nd, a day after the Anniversary of my Mothers Death. No obligations whatsoever if you would offer a small donation to celebrate my stupidity or if you want bung a quid to your own cause, every little helps.

I will be carrying a full Para Bag (including defib & oxygen), might need the latter.

Thanks in advance

Really good to hear you are back running again @Owen, and great news about the insulin! 🙂 Hope the training goes well and you manage to stay injury free 🙂

Thanks to physio and CBT, I have turned a new corner. I have got my C1 entitlement back. The running is slow but under the circumstances I will live with that. I had to give a predicted finish time. Which I have put as three times slower than my last 10K some years ago. I think I will stay away from the longer distances. I am also training as a SARS Tech, thanks to the inspiration of @Martin Canty who does this in the Sates. I have a five mile orienteering exercise on Sunday.

Absolutely applaud & support Owen's commitment to Public Safety.... Countless thousands of people contribute to Public Safety in it's various guises serving & supporting their communities, providing a level of service that would be hitherto impossible otherwise. Case in point, we recently had a search in which we had over 150 SAR & off duty firefighters respond for a missing subject. within hours of the callout with many more scheduled for the next Operational Period.

If you can't be directly involved then please support these volunteers in any way you can, emotionally, financially (the groups tend to be self-funded), and to just encourage their endeavors.

So far £240 had been donated all from diabetics.

You guys rock.

Training last night (I'm doing it at work). 3k fully kitted approx 25kg then a more sedentary 5k.

My aim is to complete the 10k fully kitted in under 1 hour 20 minutes, this is not overly fast as my PB from a couple of decades ago was 38 minutes.

That's great news about coming off insulin. As for the rest
WOW.

Training and fund raising update, completed a leisurely 15k jog, not kitted. Still alive, sore feet but joints okay.
Funds in excess of £300 raised online and £200 in pledges offline.

Thank to everyone

Off to Willingham Woods tomorrow for a SARS training exercise. Another 15k of kitted walking and some casualty evacuation.

Completed 10k fully kitted, feet very blistered, any tips welcome.I do have pustular psoriasis.

I have found Compeed blister plasters very effective - was very sceptical when I first tried them, but they actually worked! 🙂 When you say 'fully kitted' are you wearing running shoes or the shoes you would wear for your work? Sorry, for the obvious question!

I'd suggest giving things time to heal as well, particularly with the complication of the psoriasis - much better to get some quality miles in than potentially damage your feet and put yourself out of training at all by going for quantity. You've already shown you can manage the distance and have several weeks to go yet 🙂

Hope your feet recover well, and soon.

I'm trying different options for footwear, either tracerlites, karrimor or something new. Problem solved all blisters burst during extrication trying with SARS today. Soaking feet in pot perm as we speak.

Just to thank everyone that has contributed so far and let you know that I attended a diabetic PT today with a high BM and HSS. The person got fast response and treatment due to kind donations that help provide the oxygen, monitoring and medications that were utilized for a fellow diabetic. A Big Thank You.

Since my earlier post, PT in a severe diabetic coma, DKA. CPR and oxygen given, RoSC, off to hospital. Every penny helps save a life. Really hard work, tough extrication. Think I will have an easy run tonight.
