Hi Rosie, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you been diagnosed long, and are you on any medication for your diabetes? Are you able to test your blood sugar levels with a meter? Often, higher than normal blood sugar levels can cause tiredness.

I'm afraid that's very poor advice Rosie. Using a meter properly you can find out how different foods affect you and with that information decide whether what you have eaten is OK for you or not. Once you have built up an understanding of how things affect you, you won't need to test so much in future, but without knowing you are just completely in the dark all the time. :(

Have a read of the following links to understand how to get your blood sugar levels under control: Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter.

I would then go back to your doctor and tell him/her that you want to be able to test so you know how to modify your diet to bring your levels under control.

sick feeling

dose any one get a sick feeling when your hungry is this a hypo?

Welcome to the forum Rosie 🙂

Usually with a hypo the symptoms are shaking/trembling, sweating and feeling 'giddy', although it is possible to feel a little sick as well - people vary in how they react. You can also feel sick if your levels are too high, so the only way to know for sure is to test your blood - are you on any medication for your diabetes Rosie?

metformin

thanks for your reply l should take my metformin but l dont as it gives me bad indgestion:(

Hi Rosie, as has already been pointed out tiredness can be a symptom of high blood sugar. Did you take the Metformin after meals? Doing that lessens the side effects for me. How long did you give it before stopping? My side effects haven't quite disappeared (I'm still a bit windy) but I can live with that (I live alone, thank goodness). It was prescribed to help you control your blood sugar, so if you can't tolerate it your GP may prescribe something else. Have you told him/her about the problems?

There is a different type of metformin called 'Glucophage SR', which some people find has less side-effects, you should ask your doctor about it. They start you off on the ordinary metformin because it is cheaper.
