Hello I am a type2 diabetic for 14 years. Getting along well. My GP wrote to me today to tell me that according to the CCG guidelines we can no longer prescribe the e45 cream that I use to keep my feet in good condition. They were the ones that prescribed it years ago, I did not ask for it.

Hello RoseyPosey

Welcome to the forum!

Yes it seems to be a very difficult time for local CCGs trying to balance their books, and I guess they are having to look at all prescription costs carefully. Some of out members get caught up with it in different ways as things get removed without the people being advised or consulted which really shouldn't happen.

Hope the lack of E45 is not too difficult for you. Thankfully it is relatively inexpensive if it's something you still need.

Thanks. You are right it not expensive, I just would have liked a discussion before the letter came. Have a good day

Thanks Mike. You are right it not expensive, I just would have liked a discussion before the letter came. Have a good day.

And you absolutely should have had one IMO (or at the very least the offer of one in the letter). Even if just a 5 minute phone call, I'm sure it would have made a big difference..

I was told at my last Diabetes Check by the nurse that our CCG are stopping them prescribing things that can be bought over the counter. This was because she was telling me they were removing the foot cream on my repeats , I had not had for years anyway, I did not find it any better than any other .

Hello @RoseyPosey and a warm welcome to our friendly and supportive forum ~ sorry to read your E45 prescription has been withdrawn ~ especially without discussion. I advocate Vaseline Intensive Care Moisture Locking cream ~ it has served my rough and dry skin well ~ no probs now, rough skin on my feet and elbows all cleared up but I still apply it every day. But of course if you prefer to continue using E45 then I believe it is relatively low in cost but not as low as Vaseline Intensive. Why not make an appointment ~ either a telephone one or in person ~ to speak with your GP. Take care x

If you have areas of hard, dry skin on your feet then I recommend Avon footworks - not the cheapest but it really works well. Aside from that I used body butters and if you let on to family & friends you like body butters they will buy you some for Christmas, birthdays and give you their handmedowns when they don't like the smell!
