From this month the “6Cs” nursing values are being rolled out to the entire NHS workforce.
As revealed by Nursing Times in April, health officials want the set of core nursing values extended to all staff working in the NHS in England, from hospital porters to doctors to trust chief executives.
The 6Cs – care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment – reflect values and behaviours deemed essential by NHS England to the delivery of high quality compassionate care by nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants.
They were launched 18 months ago as part of the chief nursing officer for England’s national nursing strategy Compassion in Practice.
