Hi

We're off on a road trip round France at the end of this month, and I wondered whether anyone could advise on how to keep spare cartridges, pens etc cold in the car. I already have a frio wallet for insulin in use.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

We found that the glove compartment of our car stays cool. If I need to store spare insulin I put it in a fri o bag and put it in there. Then on arrival at a hotel/ B&B it goes in a fridge until we leave. I have a labelled box with a clear instruction not move it and if putting it in the owners fridge I ask to put it in place myself explaining that it is essential it does not get frozen.

In one hotel I used the fridg in our room but did not notice that there was no door on the freezer compartment!! We spent the next day getting more insulin. Expensive in the USA!,

Just remember to collect your insulin from the fridge when you leave.

Some people use a small thermos flask filled with cold not icy water for their unused cartridges still in there plastic packs . The thermos shouldn't have water in it if going through airports .
You could also use a Frio for spare insulin.
Whilst travelling and fridges when available.

I use the frio for the extra insulin too. I have a large pouch for the extra insulin and a small pouch for my pump

I have seen 'cool bags' which plug into the lighter sockets in cars - I'm afraid that my memory was badly affected by the tablets I was prescribed, so I don't remember all that clearly, they were probably large enough to hold a few cans of drink, and not intended to freeze, just chill.
Maybe look online using the search engine of your choice?

Hi Patricia. 🙂 I use a flask to store insulin for short trips...works fine (I don't fill it with water btw). I've also got a cool box that plugs into the car lighter. It doubles up as a hotel fridge when there isn't one in the room. It's quite big so usually ends up full of cheese, etc too, especially travelling in France.:D Have a great trip!😎
