Hi all,

my blood sugar levels seem to be creeping up at the moment, after months of them being really good, between 5-6, for the past 8 weeks they have been slowly going up and are rarely below 7 now and more often than not are between 9-11. It is so annoying that my GP doesn't think I need to test any more than once every other day or so, even tho I'm on Lantus.

Don't know why they are suddenly going up. Nothing has changed, diet pretty much the same as usual, and exercising more if anything, any one got any ideas? Feeling a little perplexed to say the least.

Oh the joys of being diabetic, just when u think you got it sussed it comes back and bites you on the b*m 😱

Do hope evry1 is as well as they can be,

take care,

Shirl

I wonder if it has got anything to do with the changing seasons Shirl? Many people find that their insulin requirements change with the seasons, so it may be that your lantus dose needs increasing slightly. I tend to go the opposite way this time of year and have been reducing my lantus in recent weeks - I'm using around half what I was in early September!

Thanks Northerner,

did cross my mind it could be the changing seasons! Havn't been able to get hold of DSN either to get any advice. Have given myself an extra unit of Lantus tonite so will see if it has any effect. Just a thought will it work that fast or am I expecting too much?

Changes to lantus can sometimes take a couple of days to take effect, so the rule is normally to only make one change every 3 days and take note of the changes resulting from it. How much do you normally take?

Your Beta Cells have been silently heading South all the while you've been dxed ( and well before) and now its starting to show ? Time to step up to the next level if increased Lantus doesn't help ?
The average T2 can only usually expect any one regime to work effectively for a couple of years before moving onwards and upwards.

Hi Shirl,

Sorry to hear about the high readings your discovering,Have you been worrying over all those tests you had recently maybe stress has caused a slight rise?

All my love Steff xx

Sorry folks for only just getting to reply, our internet is playing up big time at the mo!!

Still unable to get hold of DSN just gotta keep trying I guess, 🙂

McDonagh47 and Steff thanks for replying I do appreciate it, an Steff ecg result was ok. I forgot to let people know! Nothing new there then, lol

Hope it does the trick Shirl. One unit is a good increase as you only want very gradual increases so you don;t risk dropping too low, especially at night 🙂

Ooooo thanks Northerner, pleased I seem to have done something right for a change!! LOL

Hi Shirl, hope your numbers improve with the extra unit.
Do you drive a car? If so then you need to point out the rules of testing and driving to your GP ie testing befor driving as you are on insulin.

My lantus requirements fluctuate quite a lot - I have been everywhere between 3 and 11 units over the past 12 months! Hope you are settled on good numbers now for a while to come 🙂

Does your GP know you can't drive Shirl? Might be worth a little white lie to get more strips?

Typical Karen coming on and trying to make someone lie what a surprise
