Afternoon. I was answering another post and pressed the wrong button....no idea where it went. !!
Anyway, I want to ask from others with so much experience if I am on the right track. I feel that I should not have to resort to kind people on a forum to answer this, it's the DN' s job. But, T2, on Metformin and last test showed BG down. I don't feel that I am eating enough but any more is more than I can handle. I am not writing everything down but looking at Carbs etc and counting in my head.
Sunday...late.. Breakfast....... Warburton's thin x 1 with 2 X scrambled eggs,butter and the dreaded marmite. Approx 20? Carbs.
I had one glass of red wine and DH ordered up a curry!!!! I know.
I had 1 x poppadum, 2 x onion bhaji and a side of spinach and lentil dhal. No idea carb count but definitely under the nurses 120 g.
Today.......no breakfast, I dont usually during the week , lunch was olive bits, coleslaw, mozzarella, all in the fridge needing used, at least 1x litre of water and planning on a Birds Eye Haddock with 2 x vegs for tea. I know that's high but well within my range.
I think what I am asking is......am I OK????? Don't know how I should feel if I'm wrong, don't think that I am eating enough but not particularly hungry and it's very much what I was eating before.
Please move this if it's in the wrong place and I am so cross that I have to resort to asking this on a forum when I feel that this is the kind of support that diabetics should get and don't as routine.

Why are you eating marmite if you don’t like it? Otherwise it just sounds like you’re not getting enough fruit and veg as can’t see 5+ portions a day (and a portion is 80g not eg just a couple of olives) in what you mentioned.
 
I like Marmite, I just know that a lot of people don't!!!! I have never been much of a fruit eater, don't mind strawberries or fruits of the forest, just did not happen to eat them that day. Greek yoghurt and fruit if I feel that need, and yes, not much salad as such, but that's what it was. Not being rude but does it make that much difference ?? Really????? In that case, the veggie bill needs to go up.

You've come to exactly the right place @EMcKT, and we are all used to questions which the DNs can't or won't answer. Although all T2s are different, the general advice is to cut down on bread, potatoes, rice and pasta as well as the obvious stuff like cakes and biscuits. You need a balanced diet of protein, fats and minimal carbs. The more fat you eat the fuller you'll feel so don't feel bad about eating creamy coleslaw! Fish, meat, cheese, eggs, nuts are all a good source of protein. I eat curries and chilli but always have some broccoli and green beans with it rather than rice.

Not eating breakfast may be a problem if you are someone with "foot on the floor syndrome", ie your glucose starts rising as soon as you're up. Not everyone has this - I don't - but it's worth being aware of. Do you test your BG at all? If so it's handy to do one as soon as you're up, just before a meal and 2 hours after. There should be no more than 2-3 mmol difference before and after eating.

You'll be pleased to know that red wine is fine! :D
 
If you look at some of the meal plans in this link https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/ you will get an idea of what you can be eating for meals and still be on track with a 'no more than 130g carbs per day' but having protein and healthy fats. Of course you don't need to eat that much if you don't want to or don't feel hungry.
I have around 70-80g carbs per day but they are spread between meals and drinks not very little at one meal then lots at another.
 
Thanks for the replies, I never was a huge carb eater, so don't miss that stuff at all, and I have been dipping in to the forum since February , so I have been reading a lot. I don't test, DN did not suggest it and I did not ask. As for breakfast, she did not seem to worry. I'll keep going with all advice on board

Many find testing beneficial and ignore the suggestion not to as it feels like one would be driving your car without a speedometer, you are just guessing what speed you are going so just like guessing if you are tolerating the amount of carbs in your meals.
It is partly because unless people are on medication that could cause low blood glucose they are not obliged to prescribe a monitor and test strips so most people will self fund to give them the tools to manage their condition.
 
I am due more blood tests next month as the Metformin has played with my Vit B12 absorption so I will ask for the full bloods ........that's if I can see the GP to request the form. I may have to resort to testing after that if things have not improved.
 
I think you will find lunch spikes tend to be higher than dinner. Possibly due to our circadian clocks.
