diagnosed 3 months ago, was jogging along in the 42 48 44 pre diabetes group and from nowhere a reading of 77 popped up following a blood test. Shocked was the best reaction and I shut down my love of all things sweet and enjoyable. This week I have reduced from 77 down to 60 and now another 3 month wait and hopeful of a 50 or even 48 in January. Whiskey Mac is a misnomer, I have never drunk alcohol in my life but now maybe I should start!!!

welcome

Hi @Whiskey Mac and welcome to the forum. Your history mirrors mine....bumbling along for a while in the prediabetic range and then a sudden increase in HbA1c. I used a bit of all sorts to get it back down. Lost a bit of weight, cut down on carbs, made sure I kept walking and took some pills. HbA1c now around 50 and I'll live with that.

I found using a blood glucose meter to keep day to day track of how my blood glucose reacted to things and helped me make changes that got me to where I wanted to be. Could be worth thinking about.

This is why I think that self-testing can be so useful, despite what most GPs and DNs will tell us, as it can pick up whether BG is trending upwards before the next HbA1c dishes up a nasty surprise.

I think maybe that you didn't take on board when you were prediabetic (probably not advised) that you needed to make some dietary changes to prevent you creeping up into the diabetic zone.
Many find a low carbohydrate approach successful, that means not just 'the sugary' stuff but all carbohydrates. Have a look at this link for some ideas for tackling your diet. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Others find a low calorie or shakes based regime suits them and there are menu plans on the main DUK site.
