Hi
Since December 2012 I have attended about 25 appointments with Doctors, Nurses, Dentists, Opticians, and Consultants. Each of these appointments has meant taking time off work.
I saw the Dentist who insists I have a check-up every 6 months and then another appointment to see the hygienist.
I had the annual diabetic screening with the optician then 3 weeks later had to see him again for an ‘emergency’ appointment with an infection (emergency meant I only had to wait 3 days in agony to see him)
On to the Doctors. I had the B12 injection, blood tests, flu jab, diabetic review, prescription review, podiatrist, more blood tests, it goes on and on.
On Thursday whilst ticking the list of items required on my repeat prescription I noticed a message… you will need to book a medication review before you re-order your medication.
I am fortunate enough to work full time and have been with the same company for the last 15 years. Luckily they are aware that I’m diabetic and need to attend clinics, Doctors etc. but I think enough is enough.
I have written to the Practice Manager and asked if it is possible to combine a visit and complete any reviews once or twice a year. I won’t hold my breath.
To add insult to injury, Lloyds TSB like their customers to visit them regularly for an account review. I attended this in January too.
A couple of months ago when I went to the pharmacy to collect my prescription and was asked if I could spare 20 minutes for a medication review, I moved chemist.
Rant over 🙂

Wow that's a lot of appointments! I've had a fair few and whilst I'm lucky enough to work for a company that understand and my 'boss' is 4,000 miles away so doesnt really now what im doing, I do feel guilty when ever I have to take time off for appointments. I always try and get early morning or late afternoon appointments so I can often just be an hour late or leave an hour early to minimise the time out.

I really think there should be more evening/weekend clinics for people who work full time and need to have regular appointments.

That's lots of appointments - I'm glad your employer is being reasonable.

We did use to get this, but last time they told me about this I told them to take the note off my account and stop bugging me else I'd take the account elsewhere. That seems to have worked. The only reason for the review would be to try sell me something that I don't need! (usually loans, insurance, overdrafts or an account that has a monthly fee which I don't want)

I've had a good few appointments recently too and still a few more to come in March and April. Thankfully I too have a very understanding boss who is also living with an incurable disease and regularly has hospital appointments so knows how it is. I always try to schedule my appointments early in the morning or late afternoon to minimise the time I am absent from work, but my boss tells me to make sure I don't lose time. He is very good. It's like buses you wait ages for one and then 10 come at the same time!!! Lol :D
