Finally going for my annual review this afternoon. Had to cancel it twice and then wait a while for a 40 minute appt. Interested to hear what she has to say after reading all your experiences with nurses and reviews. She's my favourite nurse at the practice. I really like her, but have never seen her for a diabetic review before. X

Good luck today

Good luck today. Let us know how you get on.

Kathy good luck at your appointment hope it is a succsessful one x

Best of luck now.

Look forward to hearing how you get on at your review.

Well - it was really good! As I said - I really like this nurse - she is so lovely and we had loads of time, so I didn't feel rushed at all. She was very pleased with everything - even my weight loss which I didn't think was very good at all - 1.5 stones in a year. I had lost about three but put some back on. Blood pressure was fine, feet were fine, hba1c in normal range, liver and kidneys fine. Cholesterol 6.2 so we had the statins talk. I was prescribed them last year but never took them. She wasn't pushing them on me at all, but said it would be a good idea to take them. I have a 20% chance of heart attack or stroke in the next ten years - apparently anyone with a risk of more than a 10% risk is offered statins. So I think I will give them a go and see how I get on. She asked me about the Harriet course (our local diabetes info course) which was rubbish and very patronising. I only went to one and a half sessions out of three. She was interested in my opinion and said she would feed it back. I asked her about reducing my metformin but she seemed to think I should keep on the same dose. I think I will wait for my next blood test in six months and then discuss it with the doc. She kept saying I'd done really well - so that's nice to hear x

That's brilliant Kathy! It really makes a difference to have a review with somebody who listens and doesn't preach.
I'm surprised the metformin is continuing at the same level to be honest but hopefully can be reduced in the future. Well done!

Good to hear your positive experience, @Kathy1960

Sorry Kathy I've only just seen this thread - I'm made up for you for receiving such a glowing report from 'your very nice nurse' ! Keep as you are doing then hopefully at your next review you might have the meds withdrawn, well fine, take care.
