Had my screening today and the lovely gentleman who takes the photos showed me my results and said all clear see you next year 🙂
Obviously I will have a letter in a weeks time to confirm the result but more than chuffed and relieved after 57 years on insulin. 🙂

Last year I asked about the process they go through to provide the results.
I was told in England, after the photos are taken, the scans are independently reviewed by two people to identify any issues. If they find a problem or disagree, a third person reviews the scan.
I guess the "lovely gentleman" you saw provided a preliminary result. As wonderful as it (especially after 57 years), I would hate to learn they are cutting costs and not doing the thorough review.

Interestingly, the process is slightly different in Scotland (sorry I don't know about Wales or Northern Ireland). In Scotland, they only take one photo per eye and this is reviewed by a software program developed by Google. The same program cannot be used in England because they take two photos per eye and the software has not been written to handle the different angles.

@helli the scans go to the main hospital for review that's when the official results are sent out. The gentleman doing the scans is an old hand and explains what he sees and shows you as well. When I saw him last year he explained his concerns about one of my eyes as he had seen something which was not normal. He went on to tell me what would happen so as there were nasty shocks in the post. He was spot on and lucky for me what he had seen was also flagged by the people reading the scans so I had an eye apt and a specialist scan just to make sure all was ok which it was. No signs this time for any concerns at all.

Good news pumper sue.

Off record screener usually says if any concerns when I ask, usually they are spot on going by follow up letter, guess they have some level of training on spotting changes to retinas..

I don't think I have ever been told through the Retinopathy service, it is clear by the technican though I have never had mine done in a hospital setting. I have been told by the Optican when having my routine eye test, and they compare the previous pictures on file.

Ever since they invented the retinopathy service rather than each individual hospital doing its own thing, some better than others, my screening results have always come by letter from the retinopathy service. Some of the camera operators are chatty - and some of em ain't.

Hi all, just a couple of questions. I’ve got my first retinopathy test on the 9th March. I know it says that you can’t drive for 45 minutes after the test, blurred vision etc but will I be okay to walk home on my own. Oh yes and does it hurt?

Hello, it's at least two hours before you can drive. Yes you can walk home no problem at all.
Your eyes will probably sting for a couple of seconds when the drops go in that's all 🙂

Hello,thank you for that,much appreciated.

You may find that your eyes become very light sensitive
Thankyou for the advice,I’ll maybe take sunglasses with me if it’s a bright day.

I always wear sunglasses after mine even if it is dull. I also find my eyes are blurry for a few hours afterwards.
