Hi,

Hb thingy results are in and it is a mixed bag. They are as follows:-

HbaIc (sp?) is 36
HDL Cholesterol - normal
LDL Cholesterol - abnormal (this I think is the 'bad' cholesterol)
Trigs - Normal
Liver function - normal
Serum albumin - abnormal
Serum Urea Level - abnormal

Question is, do I need to panic about any of this abnormal stuff?

Look forward to hearing from the wise.

Triific on the HbA1c - well done!

Hello Sharron. That is an excellent HbA1c result. Well done. I think you can safely say your Diabetes is in remission🙂
Thanks. I may allow myself to think it but am way too over cautious and have read loads about the fickle nature of Diabetes. So will just carry on as I have for the last two years.

Here are my entirely medically trained thoughts...

Excellent - well within the non diabetic range

LDL - there are two(?) types... fluffy benign LDL and small dense nasty stuff. Trigs are considered a proxy for the latter (and your Trigs are ‘normal’). There also seems to be importance given to Total Chol:HDL ratio and various other ratios, but I’ve usually stopped understanding by that point. However... Eddy Edson posts links to reputable studies that suggest lower LDL is always better.

Serum Albumin and Urea are to do with kidney health, and may indicate dehydration, high protein diet, or may suggest your kidneys are having a tough time?

Thanks for this. I seem to recall last year i had a similar result re the lack of hydration. Mòre water me thinks... don't really drink alot during the day. At least the low carb diet is giving the desired result.

Congrats on the HbA1c results! As you said if the abnormal results were a cause for concern they ould be giving you an appointment. Frustrating though it is to be given them with no explanation. Hope you get a phone consultation or help from DN. Good luck!

Congratulations on an excellent HbA1c result

I have often have slightly raised urea. My tests are always fasting tests, and the lab notes always have an auto-generated "Probably due to fasting" note, so it seems pretty common. FWIW.

From what I've read, slightly high albumin isn't usually seen as a big red flag for anything in the absence of other indicators. Also FWIW!

Next step is in future read any result in a calm manner (have to work on that).

Good result 🙂 I had to badger my clinic till I got to see my results online at 'Patient Access' now they're on there super fast.
