Like many on here I have greatly reduced my carbs. But I do like to socialise with my friends at lunchtime, so today we decided to try a new restaurant at our local farm shop. I looked at their website menu first and it was virtually all carb laden with bread, potatoes, rice and pastry. However, they did offer 2 salads (sadly no omelettes, my other go-to meal out), so I thought I was fine. I go to order my 1st salad choice to be told "we no longer do that", and I got the same reply for my 2nd choice. I say "It's on your website" and get the reply "We haven't updated it yet for the changes". No salads but they do offer salad garnish and chips with some of their meals. If they can do salad garnish it's not a case of being unavailable at this time of year. So I'm left with soup of the day, which turned out to be the carb laden leek and potato with a wedge of bread. Hold the bread, I said, which they totally ignored, so I sent the bread back. Comment from the server - "we do gluten free"!! Anyone else as frustrated as I was? At least next week at the Chinese I can happily have my stir fry veggies with prawns.
Grumble over 🙄

I agree it is disappointing when a restaurant doesn't have available something you were looking forward to on their menu because either they have run out or they find they need time to prepare the more popular items.

However, most restaurants seem pretty happy to do replacements. For example, I don't eat meat (but I do eat carbs) and have had amazing Sunday "roasts" where my plate is laden with veggies instead of meat. Recently, I went out with a friend who east low carb. When it came to dessert, she requested a starter whilst the rest of us tucked into pannacote. When I have a veggie burger, I ask to replace the bun with salad. I wouldn't say all restaurants are accommodating but it can be surprising what changes they can make when you ask.

A pub we went to a few years ago was amazing, they would do ham, egg and chips, sausage, egg and chips but not just egg and chips, How daft is that.

When my daughter was much younger we went to a skittle evening at a pub with a group of people. The food was a fairly simple affair, I think sausages and chips with onion gravy and everyone had to have the same. (Can’t remember what the veggie option was, presumably there was one!). I asked if my daughter could have no gravy on hers as she really does not like sauces of any sort. They were adamant that no that was not possible. They then brought all the plates out with no gravy on and proceeded to stand at the side of the room pouring the gravy on before giving them out to the people present! And they couldn’t provide my daughter with a no gravy one - would it really have been so difficult to NOT put the gravy on one plate?!!

And then at the other extreme some places can’t do enough to cater for your individual requirements. I certainly will never go to that pub again if they can’t even cope with such a simple request!
