Cheers InkaHi @Alba14 Yes, I’d delay my injection. The fast part of the Novomix will work to cover your restaurant meal so you don’t want to inject too early and have a hypo.
Hi, Its only been a few days having to take insulin, readings have been a bit up and down. Aye Wed night was an eye opener, thought I was eating the right things, no chips, lower amount of carbs, reading in the morning was 11.1, probably the crackers with the cheese, lol. I'm taking 2 x 4ml Novo mix along with Metformin 2 x 500mg (Twice daily) & Dapaghflzin 1 x 10mg, pretty sure I'm not producing very much natural insulin 🙂 Och well, its all a learning curve and this site helps a lot.Longer term this is one of the snags with mixed insulin. It does sort of tie you in to its schedule - and you can’t so easily alter meal sizes, skip, or delay meals without things going a bit out of kilter.
I guess it would depend on how much insulin you are still making yourself, and whether the mixed is just a bit of a ‘top up’ to help… but you may ultimately prefer a system with separate jabs for ‘background needs’ (once a day) and a faster acting one whenever you are eating a meal. That way you can skip a meal, or have much larger or smaller ones at times to suit you @Alba14
Aye it will be 4 units 🙂 properly diagnosed for over 10 years, i thought that once i went on insulin that i wouldnt be taking anymore pillsIf that is 2 x 4 units of Novomix (rather than 4mls) then it is likely that you are still producing quite a lot of your own insulin as that is a relatively small dose. Insulin is generally administered in units and most pens contain 3mls and there are usually 100units per ml, so 4mls would be a whole pen and a bit, whereas 4 units would just be a very small dose from one pen.
Hope you have a lovely meal but I agree with the others that it will likely be best to take it just before you eat the meal.
How long have you been diagnosed? That seems like quite a lot of different medications to be taking for your diabetes!
I'm on novomix 30 and like you I am taking my doses at 6am and 6pm. This is perfect during the week because of my working schedule etc, but I find that at the weekends I'm taking breakfast later, up to 7.30am. Also I have been away recently and so both meal times were different meaning later breakfasts, and evening meals up to 7pm. I googled about the times for novomix and read that doses are to be taken between 10 to 14 hours, meaning my deviation is covered and I have had no issues with this. So your 7.30pm should still be ok, but as others say don't take the injection any earlier as you will go hypo. It's a little daunting taking insulin in a public place, but I have done it a few times now and it's not an issue for me. Nobody takes any notice.Hi All, i started on my insulin yesterday and have been aiming to take it at 06:00 and 18:00, my wife has booked us in to a restaurant tonight for 19:30, can i leave it until then, before taking my evening dose, I'm taking Novomix 30?
