The relationship between diabetes and hepatitis C virus is a complicated one. Despite years of research involving a host of studies and meta-analyses, the clinical community has failed to reach a consensus on the nature of the association between the two diseases.
Some research suggests that curing HCV would reduce the likelihood of developing diabetes, that controlling diabetes would improve HCV outcomes, and that adequately treating one condition would allow the other to be more manageable. In conflict with those studies, recent data published in Hepatology suggested no association between HCV and diabetes.
