Hi there,
I was thinking of using a Batch Flower Rescue Remedy spray or pastilles to help calm myself down and focus on my essay writing which is due shortly and so much to be done.

Will this be ok for Type 2 diabetics? I know the spray contains brandy solution. There's the sugar free pastilles too. Anyone with experience of this? Thanks.

Hi @Purple_Panda. Can't really help but my first port of call would be to find out what is in the product and work from there. Tried to do that and the one thing the Batch website does not tell you what is in any of their products.

Personally I would steer well clear and spend my money on unpolluted brandy if I needed a jolt to get my brain in gear!

Hi.

So I used to take this many years ago when I was doing my undergraduate studies and it seemed to relax me. Obviously I didn't have T2 Diabetes then. The main concern here is the brandy content. I just went to the pharmacy and whilst she wasn't 100% sure it was decided to err on the side of caution given the strong alcohol concentration and that the sprays can end up being taken quite frequently.

I got the "sugar free" pastilles instead just had a couple of them. Blood sugar was 5 this morning, just tested it a few minutes ago having gone for a long walk to the pharmacy and back and just had a bit of mushroom soup and it's 6.1 so hopefully these won't be an issue. Unless I eat loads in which case they cause laxative effects.

The web site mentions grape alcohol as being in the preparations. I assume that is the "brandy". Alcohol per se should not affect blood glucose, particularly in the small amounts involved.

Still think it a very expensive way of buying alcohol!

As I said I've decided to err on the side of caution and whilst I don't/didn't drink before even casually, I'm trying to avoid any alcohol whatsoever. Certainly not until I'm at least down to the lower threshold of my ideal weight and achieved all other fitness and health goals and even then it might just be the odd champers on a special occasion, or a Pimm's in the summer or a beer. But I'd be overdoing the spray atm as I'm trying to get through my assignment which is due shortly but I'm sticking with the pastilles, matcha green tea and water and blueberries and good protein.

I hope it works for you some people swear by it but didn't help me at all nor did the cannabis oils. Meditation and exercise works for me as it has in the past but then I loose interest and the go back to eating c**p which very briefly makes me feel better then makes me feel 100 X worse and ended up with type 2. So back to a good diet/exercise/meditation just wish it hadn't taken the shock of getting diabetes to get my ass in gear but on the other hand maybe if I didn't have T2 I would have carried on as I was and who knows what the outcome would have been.

You would have to drink a bucket of the stuff to get drunk but I wouldn't want to try it.

I mean it's very highly concentrated alcohol so a bucket of that would undoubtedly do some serious liver damage amongst other things.

The spray used to help but it's been such a long time since I used it.

@Maca44 this is so me....sobering thought & the healthy alternative (hopefully) is what spurs me on...

I’ve used the spray. It had no noticeable effect on my blood sugar @Purple_Panda The amount sprayed is tiny and it’s not sugary. I personally would choose that over the pastilles. I think it’s more effective too.

Apparently the spray also comes in an alcohol-free version but I used the original. The amount of brandy in a spray is miniscule. I also think it’s a good ‘carrier’. But - if you choose - check out the alcohol free one.

Thankfully because this forum/website is so informative I am really enjoying my low carb food, it's about 90g's per day must have been in the 100's before. Had a fat burger tonight with my keto roll, it was lush I feel so full eating this way. Don't really see I have any choice making the changes now i'm 56 but the changes are not depriving me at all, gotta say I feel pretty good so I'm looking at the T2 as bringing many positives due to the change in lifestyle.

I ended up consuming the entire tin of the pastilles. They taste strange to be honest. No idea if they had the desired effect or maybe I'm running on adrenaline or something in my pursuit to complete this project. Still at my desk typing away. Tempted to drink black coffee but I'm not sure.

Hope you don’t get too much stomach upheaval and the rest of your project goes well @Purple_Panda
