I have been told that the insight pump is being discontinued and i need to pick a new pump by next month. The 3 possible are medtronic 780, Tslim or Ypsomed. I think the medtronic is too large so i am trying to choose between tslim and ypsomed.
Is anyone on the ypsomed as i cannot find many opinions on this one. Has anyone tried both or had an insight and one of these?
I love my insight and am really nervous of a different pump. I would like to have the ready filled cartridges still which the ypsomed has and the tslim does not. I also do not know about a rechargeable pump...how often does it need charging and how long etc
Any opinions or thoughts...
Thanks for your time.

We have quite a few members on the Tslim and I believe @Matchless moved from the Omnipod Dash to the Ypsomed recently and I believe is happy with it.

I saw @Matchless posting that they have Ypsomed earlier, so maybe they can give you some thoughts 🙂

I’ve been using the tSlim for a couple of years. Happy to answer any questions you have.

I only need to charge my pump about once or twice a week. I just wait until it’s about 50% then charge it up to full in one hit.

Lots of people seem to choose to charge it daily to top it up (eg when in the shower), but you can charge any time you are sat at a computer for 10-15 minutes or sat watching TV (the charging cable is really long!)

Thanks for replies. Just looking for info and user thoughts at the moment but not finding much generally on ypsomed that is not just from the company. Does the tslim have a handset blood meter or does blood result have to be put in manually if using libre not dexcom? Thanks

I changed from Insight to Ypsomed a couple of months ago. I wasn’t given a choice of pumps so didn’t have your dilemma. The pump is small and light. I too was happy with the Insight so was a wrench to let it go. I had an online tuition session on Zoom with 2 others so took up an afternoon and then had to go live with it. It’s handy in that you can use the same pre filled insulin cartridges as the Insight and they are easy to change. The cannulas are quite different from Accuchek ones but can rotate on tubing. The cannula and tubing have to be replaced each time which is not so good but they are easy to change.
You get a bg meter which you can pair with pump but you use an App on your smartphone to calculate and deliver bolus.
What I will add is there have been software issues with the App so currently I am in ‘pen mode’ so have to manually give myself insulin from the pump till it’s sorted. I can still use the bolus calculator on the App. The technical people you phone are very helpful and I can contact the lady who did the initial tuition as she gives you her number and email address.
I hope this wasn’t too much info and it helps...
Oh and there is a tuition App as well so if you can’t remember a procedure it talks you through it.

Thanks for the information. It is not too much. I really appreciate you taking the time. Could i ask if there is a handset that is a blood meter and has a bolus wizard like the Insight has had? I do not really want to use phone as well if i can do it all on one.
The other thing, on the insight the screen that showed had all info about basal rate, bolus etc but the images of the ypsomed show icons on it. Is there a home screen with all the info on it? I really like the fact that the cartridges would fit the ypsomed also but not sure about the spinning cannulas, but there does not seem to be any choice with that. I really am upset they are discontinuing the insight as it is great but glad you have switched from that to the ypsomed and feel it is ok. Thanks again for replying.

You are welcome and glad the info helped. The blood glucose meter is just that I am afraid and although linked by Bluetooth,so readings are recorded, you do have to calculate and bolus from a phone on an App. I have the Libre sensors, so I haven’t used the Ypsomed blood glucose meter yet, which means I can do it all from my phone. I do still use the Insight handset, just as a blood glucose meter, if I want to double check a result, as had a few boxes of strips to use up and don’t want to waste them. When they are finished I will use the Ypsomed meter.
The home screen on the Ypsomed shows current bolus rate and if you swipe left you get your last bolus given. There are a lot of icons to get your head around so you will need to check the booklet till you get used to them but the ones you use most will soon become easier.
It is much quicker to give yourself a bolus than the Insight which I always thought was pretty slow.
I have had a few issues as I think it’s a fairly new meter but, as I said, the helpline are good so you do have support.
Hope that helps and good luck in deciding.

Thanks. That is disappointing about no handset. I presume the blood meter talks to the app and the app talks to the pump but not the meter to pump...
I have libre but just switching to 2 and had hoped to use reader for that not app. I appreciate your help and the info.

I am also on the Insight and have been given those same pumps to choose between. I currently use the Libre 2 as well. I was told all 3 pumps have closed loops but that part is not currently funded in my area. I could self-fund but it’s too pricey at £5 a day. I really love the insight but as curlygirl says, it’s being discontinued. The main things that are important to me from a pump are: pre-filled cartridges, small size and being able to give a bolus remotely as i don’t want to have to get my pump out every time I give a bolus. I don’t mind if this is via a handset or via a phone app. If anyone has any opinions on those pumps I would be very grateful. I have read the answers to curlygirl’s post and found them really useful, thanks

I think i am going with ypsopump because of the cartridges. @Zepherine can you please tell me if the pump has a lag feature like the insight has? I find being able to do the blood and input info before a meal but them put 15min lag on before any insulin is given useful. I have looked on the website and on the simulator app but i can not see it so i hope you do not mind me putting the question here. Thanks for your time.

THANK YOU ALL LIKE MOST HI TECH WE now have to use a phone to use a pump i think looking on line only two pumps have their own handset one of those is what i call self unit with no tubes vic

Hi zepherine i noticed you say in your thread that you have to always have to change tubing and cannula together well i change my cannulas and tubing on different days all the time as i get 5 days from one cartridge of insulin and 3 days cannulas ,and i change the tubing when i change the cartridge .
