They have just announced to Parliament they have identified a new variant of the virus.
 
Yes and I fully expect it to continue to morph. That in itself is interesting, cos in my lifetime so far, in the UK we've never had experience of a new virus, have we? If you were a virus, wouldn't you have a go at changing something in order to continue to survive?
 
Yes, it is in the interest of the virus not to killl you, it stops the ability to spread and survive. The other way is to become part of us. Around 10% of our DNA has been identified as viral in origin, so as long as we continue to breed, that’s the ultimate curated spread. And it’s part of what makes us human.

Mind you, that’s from way back in our history, almost to the time dinosaurs were in charge, and mammals were just at the mouse sized level.
