I have been sent the forms to renew my licence. It’s 3 years since I started on insulin so just my second short term licence. On the form it asks how many hypos I have had in the last 12 months, none, one, two or more than three. Well obviously I have had more than three, not bad ones and I have been aware and didn’t need assistance. So I ticked “ more than three”, now I am worried I might not get my licence renewed but it is truly feasible for any insulin dependant diabetic not to have the occasional hypo? Advice from those who know please.

I'm sure I ticked the 'more than three' box last time, on the grounds that if I said fewer, they might think I'm just not aware when I'm having them. I assumed the only boxes they're really interested are the hypo aware, and needing assistance ones. I got mine renewed, no problem, anyway.

Thanks for that Robin, feel a bit more confident now. If I had put none I am sure they would have known I was lying.

I've got the new form to look forward to - I've never bothered 'clocking' them cos I've never had to report them before! More than 3 against none at all needing assistance for the last 9 years if not longer - and yes I am aware else how could anyone escape, needing assistance? Narrow squeaks perhaps - not even had any of them!

PS Note to self - check the expiry date of your Hypokit next time you go to the fridge!

Got my new licence no problem
It's only the assisted hypos or lack of awareness that they're bothered about

I don’t mind driving, in another life I was retail travel agency manager and drove about the north of the country quite a bit, as I have got older and my eyesight isn’t as it was I struggle in the dark. So don’t drive as much, leave it up to Mr Eggy, but saying that we treat ourselves in September to a brand new FType Jaguar. She is gorgeous and fabulous to drive, it’s automatic which I had never driven before but absolutely love it, it’s not like “proper” driving though! It does have paddles apparently but I leave that to the Mr. He is like a kid in a sweet shop, I just drive to Tesco in it! 😉
