Forms arrived from DVLA as my driving license runs out in 3 months. I have a photo card license and my photo needs renewing, I have completed all the paperwork, a little tricky to get all the info correct! Also checked online for details on completion. Just need to get a photo done, has anyone else renewed recently......I can't remember what I did last time (3 years ago)!

Do you have to send anything else other than the docs they send you......things like proof of ID etc, surely as a renewal this shouldn't be necessary?

I keep copies of what I send. I scan them for my records then if stuff gets lost I don't have to search out the information again.

Last time my renewal took longer than expected and my license expired. Just before I did I called them and they said that as my forms were in the system I could still drive - but just in case they said they would send me a covering letter in case I was stopped.

I haven't answered your specific question but hopefully my comments are helpful.

No they have all the details they need 🙂 If they wanted any other ID then they would have asked for it.

I just returned the forms. Why do you need a new photo? Don't forget they will be writing to your GP/Consultant as to your fitness to drive (diabetic control - hypos etc), mine nearly got delayed because my GP was on holiday.

I didn't get prompted to renew my photo and then I got a letter out of the blue telling me I had committed an offence as my photo was more than 10 years old! So it's worth checking when your photo expires - it's on the card, and if it's in the next 3 years renew it when you renew your license. I did mine myself - just took a photo against a plain wall (without smiling, facing forward etc) and cropped and printed it at home. You could always get one done in a booth if that's easier.

I always check that my dr is happy to provide a medical reference too - might help to speed up the process.
