I have recently given up work at 57 to look after two of our grandchildren who now live with us full time. They are 5 and 6 1/2. I'm finding that dealing with them at mealtimes is resulting in me not taking my insulin immediately after eating, and often some time later when I suddenly remember. I've also recently had my insulin regime changed and I now need to take insulin after each meal.
Can anyone suggest a reminder regime that works for them, or refer me to a relevant web-site etc
Thanks Niel

Hi Niel, welcome to the forum 🙂 What insulin are you on? If you are on a fast-acting insulin like novorapid, it's actually recommended that you inject around 15 minutes before eating, as this gives the insulin time to get working before your food starts digesting and releasing its glucose. Of course, then you have to remember to eat, and also to eat according to the amount of insulin injected.

What were you doing before your regime was changed?

I have an alarm on my mobile phone programmed to go off at certain times, can you do this, |I find it helps me a lot. (I'm always busy doing something else and often forget what time it is)

Hi Niel. Welcome 🙂

Could you turn it into a game and get each of them to remind you and get a 'reward' if they do ?

Rob

Niel hi and a warm welcome to the forum.

Leave your pen on the dinning table as a reminder this way its difficult to forget or ignore.

Tell the kids, they'll probably love to remind you! :D They might like to make you a reward chart for remembering...make sure they have stickers to reward you with, too.

Set the oven timer for 20 minutes when you serve the meal? It would go off at some point during/shortly afterwards and could remind you?

We took adopted a little boy who is now almost 7. He loves to remind me to take my tablets and test on a regular basis.
