Refused Mounjaro

Hi
I’m feeling very frustrated, I was approved for bariatric surgery approx 18 months ago but couldn’t have the surgery until I had stabilised my diabetes and got my hba1c down. I’ve been working hard to do this but my only option medication wise due to lack of supply of injectable GLP1’s was Rybelsus (oral Semaglutide) which I’ve been on for some time, I’m also on insulin and metformin. I was promised by my diabetes nurse that she would move me onto Mounjaro as soon as it had been approved which happened in 2024. When I went back for a follow up appointment that changed and she said there was a new rule that meant if you are already on a GLP1 they’re not allowed to switch you onto a different one, the bariatric team referred me to the diabetes consultant but he also refused to prescribe me Mounjaro. The surgery is a big operation and my husband is dead against me having it, I just want to be given the option to try this drug before making a final decision on surgery, does anyone know who I can go to in order to appeal the decision? The consultants reasoning is the Rybelsus has lowered my hba1c so is doing its job which I don’t deny but I believe it comes down to funding and not what may be the best drug for me taking my circumstances into consideration. The bariatric team can’t prescribe Mounjaro so I’m left with little choice, any thoughts?

Thank you, I meet the criteria, this isn’t the issue and the nice guidelines are guidance only according to my consultant, the issue is the rule that’s been implemented specifically in the NHS trust in my area, it ultimately comes down to funding and I’m being provided with the cheaper option
