The fact that Ryan Reed is strapping into a Nationwide Series car today at Daytona International Speedway is a tribute to his dedication to the sport.
In 2011, Reed wasn't sure if he would ever get back into a race car. That is when he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and told he would no longer be able to race.
"My main concern was always about racing," Reed said after a practice session Thursday at Daytona International. "I knew enough about it that it would affect the racing, but how much was the question."
He was out of racing for a good six weeks before finding a doctor who helped him get back into racing.
