Type 2
Hi
I was diagnosed with type 2 recently. My hb1ac was 11.6% on 29 June 20. I immediately went into proactive mode and made necessary changes in diet/ lifestyle. Fasting sugar was around 230. I was put on sitaglumet 50/500 XR.
Now after 1.5 months, fasting is under 100 for most of the times and post parandial below 150, mostly in the range of 110-140. Out of curiosity and to check if i am on right track, got my a1c today after 1.5 month and it came out to be 7.9 which i think is great improvement. I aim to get it around 5.5 after 3 months. Am i on right track and will achieve remission or not?

Well done on that rapid improvement in your Hba1c. You are clearly on the right track. What strategies have you used to achieve this.

I left sugar all together. And ensured that i take carbs to the bare minimum and did cardio 3 times a week at least. I made a habit of going on walk daily after dinner for at least 30 minutes. Moreover, i tried not to freak out so that my stress does not effect my progress.

While I'm happy and think it's great that you are taking this condition seriously and wanting to make a change, it saddens me that there still isn't much awareness that a huge drop in hba1c can do damage as well, please be careful xx

Are you outside the UK? I am thinking you might be because of the units you use for your readings. For those used to to the current UK units, I have converted them which suggests your HbA1c has come down from over 100 to 65 and your fasting blood glucose from mid 12's to mid 5's. Post prandial readings are in the 8's.

That's very good and shows some real determination to get on top of your diabetes which is brilliant. Setting an HbA1c target of 5.5% (under 40) is fair enough although bearing in mind Kaylz' comment its not a good idea to get there very quickly, you need to give your system time to retune itself to the new regime. I would be thinking 6 months/year to get there rather than 3 months.

Remission? What is meant by remission? A topic much talked about on the forum. In my world, it means it has not gone away, just under control and is likely to re-emerge if you go back to your old lifestyle.

I just want to follow this lifestyle and get off from my medicine. It has helped me to lose around 10 kg weight. I was 79 when diagnosed and now it is 69. Getting a1c immediately down was not my aim. I just started off with aim to get my levels in check on daily basis which has paid dividend.
